In the world of industrial design ICEM Surf is a recognized leader in software for modeling, analysis and visualization of complex surfaces. Diagnostics and quality
The diagnostics of the projected surfaces by the method of reflected light lines allows the most adequate estimate of their quality. For example, the joints of surfaces smooth only on tangents will be represented by this method in the form of sharp kinks or kinks. Only the smoothness of transitions with continuity along curvature gives smoothness to forms and the greatest harmony.
Surface quality control in ICEM Surf offers both digital diagnostic methods and various visual methods – along the lines of glare, reflections, using slit light sources ("isophoto"), dynamic sections with curvature diagnostics.
ICEM Surf provides a set of powerful functions for "stretching" and smoothing surfaces, as well as a number of tools for their interfacing with high quality and with a choice of smoothness level.
The ability to transform the mathematical representations of curves and surfaces from NURBS / B-Spline to Bezier and back allows you to use the strengths and avoid the drawbacks of both methods, and to optimize and smooth geometry taken from other modeling systems.
Design sketches in ICEM Surf can be used either scanned from paper or developed using the integrated ICEM Style software (with visualization in real time); You can create surfaces based on the framework of the available curves or separately, modify them independently of the curves.
The process of obtaining model variants in ICEM Surf has a unique dynamism and detailed elaboration – the models created or imported easily adapt to the new designed forms through the functions of "global modification".
Development of press and die equipment
ICEM Surf offers special tools that facilitate the construction of mold surfaces of dies and molds. Among them – the extension and smoothing of edges, the creation of smooth transition surfaces to close gaps, powerful profiling functions. ICEM Surf allows for the consideration of shrinkage compensation across different axes, as well as other more complex shape changes, such as tightening in injection moldings or the effect of reverse springing in extruded parts. These changes can be easily and quickly corrected by corresponding functions that are applicable both to the whole model and to its individual parts, which is more effective.
Special tools for analysis are also offered:
• checking the "retrievability" of the part from the matrix;
• calculation and optimization of the mold connector line;
• diagnostics for the presence of flat areas for stamped parts, etc. The latter allows to avoid undesirable effects of back deflection or elastic recovery in the manufactured sheet metal parts.
This method assumes the use as the initial information for surface modeling digitized data obtained by measuring contact measuring devices or optical scanning systems of prototypes (prototypes) of developed products or already existing product samples.
ICEM Surf has all the tools for analyzing and filtering received data, the function of combining individual scanned areas into entire point clouds, as well as tools for fast drawing of surfaces.
An example of using ICEM Surf in reverse engineering can be a project for the modernization of the wings and bonnet of the Oda-Universal car (IZH-AVTO products), developed on the basis of a plasticine model using all the features of the software package: diagnostics, smoothing and bringing the quality of surfaces to "Class A".
